Be Baptized for Remission of Sin
Salvation : Hear - Believe - Repent of Sin - Confess Christ - Be Baptized - Live Faithfully
Be Baptized to Wash Away Sin
Upon being told they had crucified the Christ, the was asked, “What shall we do?” They knew Jesus and confessed Him as Lord by asking the question. Peter provided the answer that still applies to us today;
“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” (Acts 2:38).
Paul was Baptized after recognizing Jesus as the Lord on the Road to Damascus. Notice this from Paul’s conversion to Christianity at the teaching of Ananias;
“And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.” (Acts 22:16).
Accepting God’s Salvation by being baptized was an urgent matter and Paul did this first, before breaking his three day fast (Acts 9:18-19). It should be an urgent matter for us as well, when we realize our lost condition and need for salvation and we should follow his example of not tarrying.
Being baptized, immersed in water, represents the death and burial of our old sinful self followed by the rising of our new self, reconciled to God (Romans 6:3-11).
This is what the Ethiopian did in Acts 8:35-39 when he went down into the water, then came out of the water. He also did not wait, but once he had been taught he requested to be baptized at the next available water.
Salvation Includes Being Baptized
Some may teach that faith alone (e.g. praying the sinners prayer) can save, but the Bible does not teach that. We know that water baptism, immersion in water, is the beginning of the Christian life. Salvation begins with submission to God by being baptized in water.
“…baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 3:21 KJV).
Baptism in the Bible is always immersion in water. Follow the teaching and example of the Bible, not the traditions of men.
