Brief History of the Gahanna-Jefferson Church of Christ
The Gahanna Jefferson Church of Christ met for the first time January 3, 1993. It began as a mission point when the Granny White Pike Church of Christ in Nashville, Tennessee, supported Don Treadway in serving as the minister.
At the time, Gahanna, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus, had a population of about 34,000 people. The elders of Granny White believed that it was an ideal location to plant the church. The planting started with fourteen people and grew to fifty two over a five year period, meeting at the high school and various other places for the first three years. The church bought a five acre property with a small house in 1996 and the men converted the house into a suitable place to meet. Various changes have taken place over the years to make it more suitable for the needs of the congregation.
At present there are just over 12 people attending. Several people moved away including those who went to college and the military, some have died.
We enjoy regular Sunday and Wednesday preaching and teaching from the Bible. There are also local yearly area-wide Bible Bowl and Ladies Day events in which the congregation engages. The congregation is at peace. All of the men participate in the worship and women teach the children’s Bible classes and engage in several activities to serve and encourage fellowship.
You are invited to become a part of our continuing history as we work in service to the Lord. See what to expect, any of the times we meet, or give us a call to talk and discuss any Bible question you might have.
